For years and years the lions have been perfecting a special talent. They’ve over paid players and gone through many coaches to master this talent. The pursuit of this mastery has undoubtedly cost them countless games and even more fans. But ownership always knew it would eventually make a difference.
The skill they’ve mastered you ask? The skill of giving up touchdowns of course! The latest victim of this perfected skill by the lion defense: Todd Gurley and his Falcons. The Falcons thought they had the game in hand, secure in their ability to hold onto a fourth quarter lead. Little did they know the lions franchise was born for this moment. Gurley rushed through the line with power and speed (you don’t need either to score on the Lions) and once he realized where he was it was too late. Falling to the side could not save him. He and fantasy owners would have to live with the fact that he was in the end zone. This of course gave the game to the lions as they executed a clean touchdown drive in 1:04 to win the game. It was almost too easy so they made the game winning extra point 48 yards. When a franchise has committed all of its resources and history into mastering something the way the lions have, it's tough not to fall victim. Rest assured that while Todd Gurley was the latest victim he will surely not be the last. Side note PFJ is investigating claims that Todd Gurley owns himself on his fantasy team. One PFJ reporter overheard him say “My fantasy team still has a chance, the Falcons don’t.”

As a Lions fan it is difficult to swallow the fact that our record was matched. But I do have to admit that the Browns earned history in a way not many teams could. It is inspiring that they were able to achieve such greatness after falling short only a season ago. In fact, they were so close to doing this last year, I didn’t think they would be able to bounce back. But just like the Falcons have been able to bounce back from a tough loss in the Super Bowl, the Browns bounced back after an unexpected win over the Chargers. They had to face those demons again this year in Week 13, when this time they were able to pull out the loss to the Chargers. However, there were a few scares that almost stopped this incredible feat from happening.
Titans 12 Browns 9 Final/OT: In a game that took the great Joe Thomas out almost destroyed the Browns season, the Browns almost blew their chance at history. The Titans, a playoff team that just upset the KC with a big comeback, was able to survive a classic 2 minute drive by Cody Kessler. Browns Rookie Zane Gonzalez, who I guess didn’t understand what the Browns are about, hit a 54 yard field goal to send the game to overtime. The Browns did their best in overtime having -11 yards of offense in the extra period. Succop mercifully ended the game and extended the Browns season with a 47-yard field goal. Lions 38 Browns 24 Final: This high scoring affair could have had devastating results if the Lions did not knock out Kizer for 2 drives in the fourth quarter. Kessler in Kiser’s place had 2 efficient 3 and outs to seal the game. Packers 27 Browns 21 Final/OT: This was the biggest scare. Everything started off as the Browns wanted it to. Brett Hundley led a long 11-play touchdown drive for the Packers, but suddenly everything went wrong. The Packers offense stalled out completely and the Browns found themselves scoring 21 unanswered points. The Browns could not allow Brett Hundley to ruin everything they worked so hard for. At the start of the fourth quarter the Packers scored a touchdown to cut the lead to 7, a good start for the Browns. On the Packers next drive they moved the ball from their own 3 to their 47 only to have their drive stall out and the game seemed to be slipping away. However, a clutch incompletion by Kizer led to a Browns 4th down and a punt. That punt may have saved the Browns season as they gave up a 65 yard punt return. Hundley, too good to mess up great field position like this, only faced 2 3rd downs on the short drive that led to the game tying touchdown. Winning the OT coin toss was not in the Browns’ plans, but they decided to use it to their advantage as they came up with a daring idea. Let’s like Kizer try to throw the ball to “win” the game. Kizer on his second pass in OT threw it complete to Josh Jones for a Green Bay First down! 6 plays later the Packers scored a touchdown and the rest is history! I picked the Packers to play spoilers to the Browns season and thankfully I was wrong. The Browns are set up for an all time dynasty as they are retaining Hue Jackson who is 1-31 with the club. A note for the NFL Scouts reading this. Any QB the Browns pass on is probably your next franchise guy. Aguayo and Bucs equipment manager were seen fighting shortly after Aguayo was released from the Buccaneers. While being separated Aguayo exclaimed “those goals aren’t even regulation size!” When asked why Aguayo was kept for a full season Coach Dirk Koetter said he was told “he usually hits those”.
UPDATE: A source with the Bears says that Aguayo has similar suspicions about the Bears uprights. The Browns might pull off the perfect season.
Yes, the Browns might be able to do something that only one other team has managed to pull off in a 16 game season. The perfect winless season. My beloved Lions were able to do it back in 2008. 16 NFL games trying to win every single one but coming up short 16 times. The Lions were able to do it with the help of a few refereeing mistakes that cost us a couple games. These Browns don’t seem to need that help. They have gone with the strategy of hurting all their quarterbacks and I have got to say, I am impressed with the way it has worked. The last big test standing in the way of these Browns and making history are the terrible Jets. The Jets might be the only team bad enough to let these Browns ruin their perfect season attempt. Ryan Fitzpatrick will be starting for the Jets and he sounds pretty confident in himself. That means he thinks he can have 4 turnovers or less in this game. If he is able to play that well, then the Jets should be able to take care of business in Cleveland. While the Cavs and Indians are off trying to win championships, the Browns are trying to stay true to tradition in Cleveland. They are going for their own perfect season. I believe they can do it and they can use their pick to get the next Jared Goff or, if the Browns are lucky, Trent Richardson. Thanks for playing Browns. Don’t let the Jets stand in your way of a perfect season. The Mind of Kirk Cousins with 6 seconds left in the first half.
After Kirk lead the Redskins on a great drive down the field using only 25 seconds with no time outs and a wonderfully timed delay of game against the eagles. The eagles took a time out setting the Redskins up to kick a field goal. The Redskins decided they wanted to try for more than just the three points. Kirk got up to the line and surveyed the defense. “Man I hope we don’t run out of time on this play" Kirk Thought. "Garcon doesn’t look like he’ll be open maybe I shouldn’t throw the fade. That's fine this play will just be a throw away and we can get three points. So how can I stop the clock again? It’s either a spike or a kneel down. Well I have a 50-50 chance of being right so let’s just run this play and see what happens." Hike… Crap that kneel down felt wrong. Let me try and thrown the ball down now. That didn’t work let me try to run for the touchdown. Holy crap what have I done. "Man I hope ProFootBall Jokes doesn’t write an article about me…" And here we are. |
