Here are the standings:
Screw: 143-81 Reeb: 142-82 Pep: 140-84 Jemp: 129-95 Alx: 126-98 Not much changed this week. We just got a lot of terrible football games, and I wish I hadn’t moved off the Texans. But anyway, it’s Christmas time now, and all I want for Christmas is to get back into the pick’em race! Let’s pick some games. 49ers at Titans: Jemp: 49ers, Reeb: 49ers, Pep: 49ers, Screw: Titans The Titans are hanging on by a thread here, trying to stave off the surging Colts. The Colts will need to best them by 2 games in the final 3, but that is looking more and more possible the way those teams look. They should get AJ Brown back which is absolutely huge for them, as he might actually give them somewhat of a passing game. However, I think the 49ers are playing too well right now and should keep it rolling here. Prediction: 49ers win 30-27 Browns at Packers: Jemp: Packers, Reeb: Packers, Pep: Packers, Screw: Packers The Packers just barely beat the injury-plagued Ravens last week, so can they now take care of the COVID-plagued Browns? The Browns should get back most of their players… I think, but who knows anymore. The Packers could have everyone out with COVID by Saturday for all I know, but I’ll stick with the Packers here. I could see the Browns stealing this though. Prediction: Packers win 24-17 Colts at Cardinals: Jemp: Colts, Reeb: Colts, Pep: Colts, Screw: Colts Johnathan Taylor is seriously making his case for the MVP. All he needs is to keep up this tear and get the Colts in the playoffs, and he’s got a really good chance. One bad game from Aaron Rodgers could solidify it for him, because I don’t see him or this Colts team slowing down anytime soon. The Cardinals aren’t dead just yet (unlike Justin Fields), but they are in some trouble without DeAndre Hopkins. I’m making it a clean sweep for the Colts here. Prediction: Colts win 27-24 Lions at Falcons: Jemp: Lions, Reeb: Lions, Pep: Falcons, Screw: Falcons Uhh.. I guess I’ll just take the Lions because the Falcons need a few more losses on their record. Prediction: Lions win 24-20 Ravens at Bengals: Jemp: Bengals, Reeb: Bengals, Pep: Bengals, Screw: Bengals Alright, well here we get an interesting AFC North bout. I understand why everyone is taking the Bengals. The Ravens are still devastated with injuries even if they do get Lamar Jackson back, but they did just take the Packers down to the wire. This is a team that knows how to win, and while the Bengals might be much improved, there is no doubt that this team knows how to lose. There is a lot of panic in Baltimore, and that tends to be when John Harbaugh responds. Prediction: Ravens win 27-24 Rams at Vikings: Jemp: Rams, Reeb: Rams, Pep: Rams, Screw: Rams I’m excited for this game too. The Rams are starting to hit their stride, and the Vikings are getting wins as well. Sure, last week was not the most impressive performance from either team, but I still love the talent on both of these teams. The Vikings offense has struggled without Adam Thielen, but he should be back for this one which I believe will do a lot for their offense. The Vikings defense is playing much better too, but I guess playing against the Bears will do that for any team. The Rams look strong, but I think the Vikings are going to close out the season strong. Prediction: Vikings win 23-20 Bills at Patriots: Jemp: Patriots, Reeb: Patriots, Pep: Patriots, Screw: Bills Tough scene for the Patriots last week as they finally snapped their winning streak. Now they get their rematch with the Bills. I’m guessing the game will look a little different this time, unless Bill Belichick can call in favor to get some more storm force winds to come through Foxborough. I’m not too worried about the Pats though, I still think they are the stronger team, and I think they take care of business at home. Prediction: Patriots win 24-17 Jaguars at Jets: Jemp: Jets, Reeb: Jaguars, Pep: Jaguars, Screw: Jets The much anticipated matchup between the first and second overall picks. They are neck and neck in terms of who is having the better season, so this one could determine a lot. The one thing I know is that the Jaguars are going to feed James Robinson now that Urban Meyer is out, and the Jets can’t stop the run to save their life. I mean, Duke Johnson just ran for over 100 against them. DUKE JOHNSON. The guy didn’t have a job a few weeks ago and hasn’t rushed for over 60 yards since 2016. His career high in rushing yardage prior to Sunday was 78 yards. Prediction: Jaguars win 17-14 Giants at Eagles: Jemp: Eagles, Reeb: Eagles, Pep: Eagles, Screw: Eagles The Giants are quickly back to being the worst team in the NFC. The Eagles don’t do a whole lot well either, but they sure can run the ball. Their offensive line might be the best in football, and Miles Sanders is running behind it. He still refuses to get into the endzone, but I think that’s just a matter of principle. Prediction: Eagles win 28-6 Buccaneers at Panthers: Jemp: Bucs, Reeb: Bucs, Pep: Bucs, Screw: Bucs That was a tough game for the Bucs for so many reasons. Of course, it was hideous to watch, and it’s embarrassing for any team to get shut out, but to lose your three best skill players on one night is hard to recover from. They hope to get Mike Evans and Antonio Brown back soon which could certainly help things. And it doesn’t matter much this week because they are playing the Panthers. Matt Rhule stated Cam Newton will start and have a significant role. I like how he had to clarify that Cam will have a significant role as the starting quarterback for the team. And apparently Sam Darnold could play some too, because why not? Prediction: Buccaneers win 24-6 Chargers at Texans: Jemp: Chargers, Reeb: Chargers, Pep: Chargers, Screw: Chargers You have to feel good for Davis Mills for getting his first win in the NFL. It is likely his last, but still he’s shown he can hang around as an NFL backup. Unfortunately, this week he plays a quality NFL starter in Justin Herbert who also has more talent around him, so I expect him to get smacked. Prediction: Chargers win 34-17 Bears at Seahawks: Jemp: Seahawks, Reeb: Seahawks, Pep: Bears, Screw: Seahawks This sounds like the most miserable game to watch. I don’t think anyone should have to endure this game, and they should declare it a 0-0 tie right now. If people in this game got COVID, I think we could just cancel it and no one would lose a wink of sleep. Including the players. Except for Russell Wilson because he’s weird. Prediction: Seahawks win 7-3 Steelers at Chiefs: Jemp: Chiefs, Reeb: Chiefs, Pep: Chiefs, Screw: Steelers Screw is sticking by his Steelers. I guess they came through last week so he’s feeling good about them? I feel better about the Chiefs, who proved they can still explode on offense when they need to. It looked like the old unstoppable connections from Mahomes to Hill and then Mahomes to Kelce. But maybe the Steelers can stop it. Devin Bush can probably shut down Travis Kelce. Prediction: Chiefs win 33-17 Broncos at Raiders: Jemp: Broncos, Reeb: Raiders, Pep: Broncos, Screw: Raiders It physically pains me to pick Drew Lock, but the Raiders have been miserable and I need to gain some ground on Reeb and Screw. The Broncos are the better all around team, so maybe they have enough to get this done. Prediction: Broncos win 20-17 Football Team at Cowboys: Jemp: Football Team, Reeb: Cowboys, Pep: Cowboys, Screw: Cowboys Jemp and I will be reporting live to see the Football Team dominate the Cowboys in Jerryworld. Looking forward to a good 200-0 thrashing. Prediction: Football Team wins 200-0 Dolphins at Saints: Jemp: Dolphins, Reeb: Dolphins, Pep: Saints, Screw: Dolphins Those were a weird couple of weeks where we had good Monday Night matchups, but now this feels more correct. From Vikings Bears last week to Dolphins Saints this week seems like Steve Levy’s comfort zone. And we’re probably going to see Ian Book start this one for the Saints. The fact that Sean Payton is only turning to him because COVID has taken out Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian doesn’t bode well, but maybe he’ll surprise us. It’s a pretty low bar for Saints quarterbacking play at least. Prediction: Saints win 17-16 Here are the standings:
Screw: 131-77 Reeb: 131-77 Pep: 130-78 Jemp: 118-90 Alx: 115-93 This is turning into a nailbiter at the top with Jemp and me watching from afar. I haven’t given up hope though, because it’s a new week. Let’s pick some games. Chiefs at Chargers: Jemp: Chiefs, Reeb: Chiefs, Pep: Chargers, Screw: Chiefs Let’s hope this is finally a true test for the Chiefs. They somehow had one of the most dominant wins of the season, yet Patrick Mahomes was still underwhelming. Still, there is no denying this is one of, if not the best team in the AFC. In contrast, they play the Chargers who may have the most exciting quarterback in the game right now, but haven’t looked as good as the Chiefs overall. Although, the Chargers defense has played much better in the latter half of the year, and I don’t think the Chiefs defense can keep this up against Justin Herbert. Prediction: Chargers win 31-28 Raiders at Browns: Jemp: Browns, Reeb: Browns, Pep: Browns, Screw: Browns The Browns got a huge win last week against their division rivals, only to take big hit from COVID. The Raiders may be I shambles, but I have to think they can take on a decimated Browns team. I don’t have the highest of confidence, but I guess I’ll take the Raiders. Prediction: Raiders win 17-10 Patriots at Colts: Jemp: Patriots, Reeb: Patriots, Pep: Patriots, Screw: Colts This may be the best game of the week. While I’ve said the Patriots are the best team in the AFC, the Colts are sneakily not far behind them. I think they also match up well against the Pats, as it’s harder for Belichick to take away the whole running game than just a single receiver. Even if he stacks the box, Carson Wentz can make you pay. He can also often make his own team pay, but I’m counting on him to get this done at home. Prediction: Colts win 27-24 Panthers at Bills: Jemp: Bills, Reeb: Bills, Pep: Bills, Screw: Bills Bills fans have been tortured by Bill Belichick and Tom Brady for the better part of 2 decades. However, they learned last year that taking on Cam Newton is a much more accomplishable task, and I think it’s getting easier by the second. Pretty confident in this one. Prediction: Bills win 27-0 Cardinals at Lions: Jemp: Lions, Reeb: Cardinals, Pep: Cardinals, Screw: Cardinals The Lions are playing with house money at this point and I think they deserve to just have a good time. No need to go crazy and get a second win. Just go ahead and let Kyler Murray and Cardinals have their bounce back spot. Prediction: Cardinals win 34-10 Jets at Dolphins: Jemp: Dolphins, Reeb: Dolphins, Pep: Dolphins, Screw: Dolphins The Dolphins are being blessed with the easiest possible schedule to continue their hot streak. The Jets are as miserable a team as there is, this side of Texans Jags. They have the worst defense in the NFL and my evaluation of Zach Wilson is looking like my worst since Bishop Sankey. Keep on winning Dolphins. Prediction: Dolphins win 31-21 Cowboys at Giants: Jemp: Cowboys, Reeb: Cowboys, Pep: Cowboys, Screw: Cowboys From one miserable New Jersey team to another. Apparently we might get to see Jake Fromm State Farm this week, even though Mike Glennon is going to start. Seems like a solid organizational plan. Not that anyone really cares anyway. Go ahead and take the free win Cowboys. Prediction: Cowboys win 24-6 Football Team at Eagles: Jemp: Eagles, Reeb: Eagles, Pep: Football Team, Screw: Eagles COVID isn’t going to put a damper on the Football Team. Even with the backups of backups, they’ll take care of the Eagles. Prediction: Football Team wins 100-0 Titans at Steelers: Jemp: Titans, Reeb: Titans, Pep: Steelers, Screw: Titans I kind of want to take the Steelers in this game but I’m really counting on TJ Watt to be available. Yeah the Titans finally ended their losing streak to the Jaguars, but surprisingly I don’t take much from that. I like the Steelers to get this one. Prediction: Steelers win 23-16 Texans at Jaguars: Jemp: Jaguars, Reeb: Texans, Pep: Texans, Screw: Texans I don’t think this one is worth talking about. The Jags might actively try to lose in protest of their coach. Not that they need to try too hard. (Edit: Nevermind, Urban Meyer is fired, so they’re trying. I’m taking the Jags) Prediction: Jaguars win 17-10 Bengals at Broncos: Jemp: Bengals, Reeb: Bengals, Pep: Bengals, Screw: Bengals Very disappointed the Bengals couldn’t pull that game out last week. Really felt like they had it until Zac Taylor got conservative in the Redzone, and then they couldn’t get a stop against the 49ers. I feel a little better about their ability to stop the Broncos, but even that might be a tall take for this secondary. However, I can’t help but feel Joe Burrow showed some grit last week, and think that translates to a W this week. Prediction: Bengals win 27-24 Falcons at 49ers: Jemp: 49ers, Reeb: 49ers, Pep: 49ers, Screw: 49ers Please get these Falcons out of the “in the hunt” graphic. Hopefully a 49ers win here will do it, because this Falcons team is not good enough to be in playoff contention. The Cordarrelle Patterson emergence has been a good joke, but I don’t need to pretend like this team can compete with anyone good. Prediction: 49ers win 30-17 Seahawks at Rams: Jemp: Rams, Reeb: Rams, Pep: Rams, Screw: Rams Well that looked a lot more like the Rams I expected to see at the beginning of the year. Matthew Stafford bounced back in a big way, and OBJ is thriving in this offense. He’s not as explosive as he used to be and he doesn’t want to take any sort of contact, but leave him one on one and he can still toast some DBs. And it’s a nice pairing when the Rams have the ultimate zone beater in Cooper Kupp. The Seahawks are certainly improved from where they were two weeks ago, but they still have plenty of issues and they always lose to the Rams anyway. They’re only hope is for COVID to take out the whole Rams team. Prediction: Rams win 33-17 Packers at Ravens: Jemp: Packers, Reeb: Packers, Pep: Packers, Screw: Packers This might have been a fun matchup if the Ravens weren’t riddled with injuries. Especially with Lamar’s status in doubt. I kind of like Tyler Huntley as a solid backup, but I don’t think he is close to good enough to overcome the rest of the losses the Ravens. Even a full strength Lamar Jackson might not be able to, especially with Aaron Rodger fully dialed in right now. Prediction: Packers win 35-17 Saints at Buccaneers: Jemp: Bucs, Reeb: Bucs, Pep: Bucs, Screw: Bucs I wonder if the Saints will be hyped up by the Sean Payton movie trailer with Kevin James. Nothing like a good old Happy Madison production to shed light on a scandal that involved intentionally injuring players. But even that extra motivation probably won’t be enough for them to beat the Bucs. The Saints haven’t yet lost to the Bucs with Tom Brady, but I suspect that changes here. Prediction: Bucs win 27-17 Vikings at Bears: Jemp: Vikings, Reeb: Vikings, Pep: Vikings, Screw: Vikings Kirk Cousins on Monday Night against the Bears, what could go wrong? I have to stick with my guy but this is not the ideal spot for him. I just hope the Bears blow it more than the Vikings can. Prediction: Vikings win 30-27 Here are the standings:
Screw: 123-71 Reeb: 120-74 Pep: 119-80 Jemp: 109-85 Alx: 107-87 Screw keeping his lead now, but Pep is making a push up the board. I’m still hanging strong 16 games back. Let’s pick some games. Steelers at Vikings: Jemp: Vikings, Reeb: Steelers, Pep: Vikings, Screw: Steelers I knew the Vikings would be the team to lose to the Lions. Why they didn’t try to run as much clock as possible when they got the ball in Lions territory, I have no idea. Maybe they wanted to leave themselves enough time to get the ball back to cover the spread. Or maybe they just figured Jared Goff could lead the Lions down the field regardless of how much time was left. However, I always feel better about the Vikings after they hit rock bottom. And the Steelers just had their biggest win of the year, so they are bound to come back down to Earth. Prediction: Vikings win 31-17 Ravens at Browns: Jemp: Ravens, Reeb: Browns, Pep: Ravens, Screw: Ravens Reeb is the only one brave enough to take the Browns. I considered it, thinking they might have some answers coming out of the bye to take down a reeling Ravens team. Then I remembered what Baker looked like before the bye and I realized the only answer that would help them would be the formula for a magic full body healing potion. With maybe some extra quarterbacking skill sprinkled in there. Prediction: Ravens win 17-10 Jaguars at Titans: Jemp: Titans, Reeb: Titans, Pep: Titans, Screw: Titans Wait, why is this not on TNF? Are they too good for Jaguars Titans now? This really has the feel of a Jags Titans matchup too, given how bad the Titans have been as of late. They aren’t nearly as bad as the Jaguars, but this rivalry always has a scent of unpredictability. I’m taking the Jags to get the win on the road. Prediction: Jaguars win 17-14 Raiders at Chiefs: Jemp: Chiefs, Reeb: Chiefs, Pep: Chiefs, Screw: Chiefs I don’t recognize this version of the Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes is throwing for under 200 yards with no touchdowns? And they win because of their defense? Are these the 2006 Bears? Maybe they remember how they played the last time they faced these Raiders and reignite this offense. Or maybe they don’t and they still win. Prediction: Chiefs win 31-17 Saints at Jets: Jemp: Saints, Reeb: Saints, Pep: Saints, Screw: Saints If the Saints lose this game, then I think Jameis should win MVP. But things seem to be going in the Saints direction. Despite some late game disasters, the Saints looked better with Taysom Hill at quarterback. He was put in a tough spot when he was missing both his tackles and his superstar running back, and hurt his finger early in the game. This week he should get some pieces back and hopefully his finger and foot aren’t too much of an issue. But maybe the other BYU QB can take him down. Zach Wilson showed at least a little something last week, but the Jets are just too bad to pick. Prediction: Saints win 23-14 Cowboys at Football Team: Jemp: Football Team, Reeb: Football Team, Pep: Football Team, Screw: Football Team I haven’t been this excited for a Football Team game all year. It gets boring watching them win 100-0 every week, but it never gets old against the Cowboys. And let’s be real, Washington isn’t stopping at 100 in this one. Prediction: Football Team wins 300-0 Falcons at Panthers: Jemp: Falcons, Reeb: Falcons, Pep: Falcons, Screw: Falcons Does anyone really care about this game? I guess I’ll take the Panthers since this seems like an even matchup and I need to catch up to everyone else, but I have no conviction about it. I just need Cam to not completely fall apart. He’s going against the Falcons defense so it shouldn’t be that hard. Prediction: Panthers win 24-21 Seahawks at Texans: Jemp: Seahawks, Reeb: Seahawks, Pep: Seahawks, Screw: Seahawks Well maybe I shouldn’t have written off the Seahawks so quickly. Honestly, I might have considered taking the Texans if this game had taken place last week. But now the Texans are just expelling all talent from their roster and the Seahawks showed some life last week. And any sort of life is good enough to beat the Texans right now. Prediction: Seahawks win 27-10 Lions at Broncos: Jemp: Lions, Reeb: Broncos, Pep: Broncos, Screw: Lions One win and Screw had jumped on the Lions Bandwagon. I may have made an overreaction on our podcast that the Lions would win out. But I’ll tell you right now, I didn’t believe it in the slightest and am going to reneg right now. Prediction: Broncos win 23-16 Giants at Chargers: Jemp: Chargers, Reeb: Chargers, Pep: Chargers, Screw: Chargers So Jake Fromm might start for the Giants in this one. I think that tells you all you need to know about their chances here. At least with Mike Glennon… no actually they are just as bad off with Glennon. Prediction: Chargers win 27-10 49ers at Bengals: Jemp: Bengals, Reeb: 49ers, Pep: 49ers, Screw: Bengals Man, I was so in on the 49ers last week and they went and lost to the Seahawks. At least I know that the Bengals are inconsistent. I’m never really surprised by any outcome from a Bengals game. Both of these teams are dealing with a lot of injuries, but I guess I’ll trust Joe Burrow over Jimmy G? Granted I don’t really want to take Zac Taylor over Kyle Shanahan, but whatever, I’ll take the Bengals at home. Prediction: Bengals win 20-17 Bills at Buccaneers: Jemp: Bucs, Reeb: Bucs, Pep: Bucs, Screw: Bucs Tough schedule for the Bills, first Belichick, now Brady. Josh Allen has never beaten Tom Brady, and I don’t really expect that to change here. The Bills defense has gotten exposed on the ground, and the offense hasn’t looked the same as it did last year at any point this season. The Bucs are just taking care of business every week (except when they play the Football Team of course). Prediction: Buccaneers win 30-20 Bears at Packers: Jemp: Packers, Reeb: Packers, Pep: Packers, Screw: Packers Everyone must be excited to watch the NFL’s oldest rivalry on Sunday Night! I guess the silver lining is that we get to see Justin Fields again. It was a Sunday Night game against the Packers in 2018 when Mitch Trubisky proved to me he was not the answer to the Bears qb woes. Justin, you go show me the opposite in this one. But I’m guessing the Packers still win either way. Prediction: Packers win 28-17 Rams at Cardinals: Jemp: Cardinals, Reeb: Cardinals, Pep: Cardinals, Screw: Cardinals I remember early in the year when I thought the Rams were for real and the Cardinals were just pretenders. Now I feel silly, because the Rams have been a mess that the only the Jaguars could clean up. Maybe that was the spark the Rams needed, but I’m sticking with the team that’s been good all year. Also, how is Monday Night Football suddenly getting good games? I guess Peyton Manning has the clout to get these. Prediction: Cardinals win 30-27 Here are the standings:
Screw: 114-66 Reeb: 112-68 Pep: 108-72 Jemp: 98-82 Alx: 97-83 I know it appears like it’s a 3 man race for the title this year, but with the Football Team heating up, I’m in prime position to catch up. Let’s pick some games. Cowboys at Saints: Jemp: Cowboys, Reeb: Cowboys, Pep: Cowboys, Screw: Cowboys Nothing I’d rather do with my Thursday Night than watch Taysom Hill. The Saints need to prove his worth after signing him to an extension. And they’re only $60M over the cap next year so they have money to throw around this year. But I’m sure he’ll prove his worth even if Alvin Kamara and possibly both tackles are out for this game.. Prediction: Cowboys win 24-10 Buccaneers at Falcons: Jemp: Bucs, Reeb: Bucs, Pep: Bucs, Screw: Bucs And we get a Bucs Falcons rematch here. These teams did already play once right? I feel like they did but I don’t really care enough to check. Anyway, if they did, I’m sure the Bucs dominated and they probably will again. Cordarrelle Patterson is the only hope for the Falcons. Prediction: Buccaneers win 38-20 Cardinals at Bears: Jemp: Cardinals, Reeb: Cardinals, Pep: Cardinals, Screw: Cardinals Well I think Kyler Murray will be back for this game. I’d say I’m pretty sure, but that has burned me the last times the Cardinals played. But third time is the charm. Justin Fields is also a question mark for the Bears, not that it matters. Matt Nagy might have survived last week but a loss here might be the nail in his coffin. Prediction: Cardinals win 27-13 Chargers at Bengals: Jemp: Bengals, Reeb: Bengals, Pep: Chargers, Screw: Bengals These might be two of the hardest teams in the league to figure out, and that is saying something this year. The Bengals go from getting walloped by the Browns to decimating the Steelers in a matter of weeks. The Chargers actually make more sense. They have an unbelievable yet imperfect quarterback and a fairly average to below average team around him. They invite variance with their tendency to go for 4th downs. The Bengals are the better overall team but the Chargers can easily steal any game. Prediction: Bengals win 27-24 Vikings at Lions: Jemp: Lions, Reeb: Vikings, Pep: Vikings, Screw: Vikings This feels like game the Vikings will blow. They are a great team, and the NFC playoffs would be better with them in it, but I can’t help but feel like this is the perfect spot for the Lions to get a win. The Vikings are coming off a tough loss in a shootout where Kirk had his first bad game in a while, with Justin Jefferson getting a bit frustrated and Dalvin Cook possibly out. Kirk doesn’t deserve it but I can see the Lions getting this one. I’m sure as hell not picking them though. Prediction: Vikings win 31-14 Giants at Dolphins: Jemp: Dolphins, Reeb: Dolphins, Pep: Dolphins, Screw: Dolphins I would so be down to lone wolf the Giants if Mike Glennon wasn’t starting. Unfortunately, he is, and so is Tua who has played pretty well as of late. I mean not well by a good quarterback’s standards, but well in the way Daniel Jones was earlier in the year. But I am impressed don the way Brian Flores has made this defense come together. Sure, they’ve had some soft matchups, but this might be their softest yet, so I expect their winning streak to continue. Prediction: Dolphins win 23-10 Eagles at Jets: Jemp: Eagles, Reeb: Eagles, Pep: Eagles, Screw: Eagles I should’ve known the Eagles couldn’t win without Jordan Howard. The bad news is that they are without him again. The good news is that they are playing the Jets. Prediction: Eagles win 28-14 Colts at Texans: Jemp: Colts, Reeb: Colts, Pep: Colts, Screw: Colts Tough loss for the Colts, but the football gods have mercy on them with a matchup against the Texans this week. Jonathan Taylor should go right back to scoring 5 tds in this one. Tyrod Taylor will be lucky if he puts up 5 points. Prediction: Colts win 38-10 Football Team at Raiders: Jemp: Football Team, Reeb: Raiders, Pep: Football Team, Screw: Raiders Good in by the Raiders, but not good enough to carry them to win against the Football team. Prediction: Football Team wins 100-0 Jaguars at Rams: Jemp: Rams, Reeb: Rams, Pep: Rams, Screw: Rams I don’t even know if the Rams are good enough to beat the Jags anymore. That’s a joke. I got arched the Jags last week. And all the weeks before that. But the Rams need to do more than just win this week. They need to show they still have a functional offense. They were able to get the big play last week, now they need to remember how to matriculate the ball down the field. This is a good week to practice that. Prediction: Rams in 24-13 Ravens at Steelers: Jemp: Ravens, Reeb: Ravens, Pep: Ravens, Screw: Ravens The Ravens might not be the prototypical powerhouse team, but they do one thing well: edge out bad teams. And since 90% (conservatively) of the league is bad this year, they are 8-3. After watching the Steeler last week they certain qualify in that category, so I’ll take the Ravens. But I guess anything can happen in a rivalry game. Prediction: Ravens win 20-17 49ers at Seahawks: Jemp: 49ers, Reeb: 49ers, Pep: 49ers, Screw: 49ers This is the most lopsided matchup of the week. The 49ers are the hottest team in the NFC, and the Seahawks are one of the biggest dumpster fires in the NFL. If they played the Lions this week I would 100% pick the Lions. Deebo Samuel is a big loss for the niners, but not nearly big enough to cover the chasm between these two teams right now. Prediction: 49ers win 38-0 Broncos at Chiefs: Jemp: Chiefs, Reeb: Chiefs, Pep: Chiefs, Screw: Chiefs We got one week off of “Chiefs watch.” Now we can go back to questioning every aspect of their existence no matter the result here. Then again, if the Chiefs come out and win this, they’ll be 8-4 and fully in control of the division, and it will be hard to argue they aren’t a contender. If they lose, it’s back to the drawing board. Prediction: Chiefs win 23-14 Patriots at Bills: Jemp: Patriots, Reeb: Bills, Pep: Patriots, Screw: Patriots Wait, the best game of the week is on Monday Night Football? What is going on? Who did Steve Levy have to blow to get this game? I can’t wait for this one. This is a true battle for the AFC East, something we haven’t had since Chad Pennington beat Brett Favre to edge out Matt Cassel in 2008. This will just be the first of two bouts between these teams, but I think the Patriots are too good right now. How about that for a change of pace. Prediction: Patriots win 30-27 Here are the standings:
Screw: 105-60 Reeb: 104-61 Pep: 99-66 Jemp: 92-73 Alx: 90-75 Good week for me and now I’m only 15 games back. With a 17 game season and 13 playoff games worth double points, I’ve got plenty of time to get back into things. Let’s pick some games. Bears at Lions: Jemp: Lions, Reeb: Lions, Pep: Lions, Screw: Bears No better way to kickoff Thanksgiving than a classic Bears-Lions game. It may not be the most exciting quarterback matchup, but it’s really just on to get you out of talking to your family. It may be Matt Nagy’s last game coaching the Bears, but he has a good chance to go out with a win. However, Pep, Reeb, and Jemp all think the Lions pull out the Thanksgiving miracle and get their first win of the season. Apparently Jared Goff is trending towards playing, which is disappointing for us at PFJ, because I was fascinated by the Tim Boyle storyline. But I guess I can always just watch for the Andy Dalton comeback. Prediction: Bears win 24-10 Raiders at Cowboys: Jemp: Cowboys, Reeb: Cowboys, Pep: Cowboys, Screw: Cowboys Another disappointing outing from the Cowboys offense left Jerry Jones scratching his bald spot. You would think they could rebound this week against a reeling Raiders team. The Cowboys might be inconsistent, but the Raiders are in shambles, just like Derek Carr’s hair. Even with the injuries the Cowboys are facing, I think they pull this one out on their annual Thanksgiving home stage. Prediction: Cowboys win 24-20 Bills at Saints: Jemp: Bills, Reeb: Bills, Pep: Bills, Screw: Bills I am so tempted to take the Saints here, even though Trevor Siemian has let me down every time I pick him. However, I think we know what we’re getting from Siemian. A flat first 3 quarters and then a 4th quarter rally. The other side of the ball is much more interesting to me. The Saints looked like one of the best defenses in football earlier in the year, but somehow losing Jameis has made the defense worse than the offense. And then of course the Bills offense has struggled recently as well, so this is just a question of who will win this matchup. Also, the Bills had the best defense in football prior to getting gashed by Jonathan Taylor, so they could just wreck Trevor Siemian and company, especially if Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram are out. Prediction: Bills win 23-13 Steelers at Bengals: Jemp: Steelers, Reeb: Bengals, Pep: Bengals, Screw: Bengals I’m surprised there weren’t more takers for the Steelers in this one. They did end up losing to the Chargers, but put on an impressive comeback. Okay, it was a little lucky with the blocked punt and the deflected interception, but I still wouldn’t think the Steelers were capable of putting up 37 points. Then again, their defense allowed Justin Herbert and Austin Ekeler to walk all over them. The Bengals might not have the same explosiveness that the Chargers do, but they have a pretty good group of weapons. I think the Bengals complete their sweep of the Steelers. Prediction: Bengals win 27-24 Buccaneers at Colts: Jemp: Bucs, Reeb: Bucs, Pep: Bucs, Screw: Bucs No love for the Colts here? They have won 6 of their last 8 now with the two losses being the overtime games with the Ravens and Titans. These Colts might be the second hottest team in the AFC, which naturally means they have to lose this week. I kid, sort of. I never like picking against Tom Brady, but I feel like these Colts have something special going. Carson Wentz will probably end up throwing the game to the GOAT, but I like the Colts in this one. Prediction: Colts win 31-28 Panthers at Dolphins: Jemp: Panthers, Reeb: Panthers, Pep: Panthers, Screw: Panthers I feel like I’m starting to buy into the Dolphins a little bit. I mean not as a playoff contender or anything, just as a team that is no longer bottom of the barrel. I’m pretty tempted here to take them against the Panthers. The Panthers defense has now shown some cracks, but then again, Taylor Heinicke can expose any defense. Can Tua do the same? Probably not, now that I think about it. Plus, the Panthers offense is so much more functional now that McCaffrey is back. I don’t care that much about Cam being in there, but he played fine last week and as long as he doesn't have a Darnold-like meltdown, the Panthers should take this one. Prediction: Panthers win 24-21 Titans at Patriots: Jemp: Patriots, Reeb: Patriots, Pep: Patriots, Screw: Patriots Remember how it was the Titans who essentially ended Brady’s time in New England? It seemed like it would be a long time before the Patriots regained their dominance after that, yet here we are less than two years later, and the Pats look like the best team in the AFC. They have outscored their last 5 opponents 175-50. For those of you who struggle with math, that’s an average score of 35-10. And then we have this Titans team that looks lost without Derrick Henry, and now AJ Brown is questionable too. This could go south quickly for the Titans. Prediction: Patriots win 35-10 Eagles at Giants: Jemp: Eagles, Reeb: Eagles, Pep: Eagles, Screw: Eagles Well the Eagles seem to have realized that maybe they are better off as a running team since they have a quarterback who is extremely athletic, and not that great of a passer. Also they have Jordan Howard in the backfield, so that pretty much ensures a quality rushing attack. Unfortunately, it looks like JoHo will be out this week, which means the Eagles will have to rely on Miles Sanders to lead the ground game, which isn’t great, but probably good enough to deal with the Giants. But hey, maybe Freddy Kitchens gets this offense back on track. Prediction: Eagles win 24-20 Falcons at Jaguars: Jemp: Falcons, Reeb: Falcons, Pep: Falcons, Screw: Falcons I never thought Cordarrelle Patterson’s status would be such a big factor in picking any NFL game, but here we are. Everyone is taking the Falcons now that C-Pat is probably back this week. I’m a little hesitant though. I think the Jags ran into a hot niners team last week, but they had played pretty well before that, especially on the defensive side of the ball. I think they can get back to that this week against a Falcons team that was just shut out. Then again, the Jags offense is pretty hard to watch, so maybe Cordarrelle will be enough offense for the Falcons. Prediction: Jaguars win 17-14 Jets at Texans: Jemp: Texans, Reeb: Texans, Pep: Jets, Screw: Texans Well this is a crucial game in the quest for a high draft pick. I don’t know if either of these teams can catch the Lions for the first pick, but whoever loses this one will be in the driver seat for the second pick. The Texans did just have an impressive win over the Titans, but the Jets are getting Zach Wilson back this week. I don’t really take much from the Texans victory, so I’m just going to take the Jets because I want to root for Zach Wilson. We really don’t need any analysis here. Prediction: Jets win 24-21 Chargers at Broncos: Jemp: Chargers, Reeb: Chargers, Pep: Chargers, Screw: Chargers Big win for the Chargers on Sunday Night Football. They desperately needed that big offensive performance, and Justin Herbert sure delivered. With Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, and Austin Ekeler now seemingly operating at full capacity, I don’t think that Teddy Bridgewater can keep up with them, even if he does have some nice weapons of his own. Prediction: Chargers win 31-17 Rams at Packers: Jemp: Rams, Reeb: Rams, Pep: Packers, Screw: Packers This is a huge NFC matchup this week. The Packers have been as consistent as anyone since the week 1 debacle, despite a loss last week. And the last time we saw the Rams, they were in some serious trouble. The Packers might have lost to the Vikings but that was just a hard fought divisional shootout against a good team. Then again, the Packers invite these close games, and while they’ve been consistent, we haven’t seen them be dominant. We’ve seen the Rams have a higher ceiling and I trust Sean McVay to come out with some answers after the bye week. Prediction: Rams win 34-27 Vikings at 49ers: Jemp: Vikings, Reeb: 49ers, Pep: Vikings, Screw: Vikings This might be the game I am most excited for this week. Both of these teams seem to be hitting their stride right now, and I can’t wait to see which one comes out on top. We get to see the coaching matchup to see if Mike Zimmer can slow down Kyle Shanahan, who seems to have gotten this Jimmy G led offense together. Now with Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and even Brandon Aiyuk all playing well at the same time, this offense is hard to stop. But you can say the same about the Vikings offense with Kirk playing some of the best football of his career and Justin Jefferson on an absolute tear. You know I’m not going away from Kirk here, but this should be a fun one. Prediction: Vikings win 34-31 Browns at Ravens: Jemp: Ravens, Reeb: Ravens, Pep: Ravens, Screw: Ravens I’m just about done with this Browns team. Sure, they managed the win against the Lions, but squeaking one past Tim Boyle doesn’t exactly make me feel great about your team. Tyler Huntley could come out and play for the Ravens again and I’d still feel great about picking the Ravens. Maybe I’m being too harsh on the Browns, but this team that once felt so fun now just seems boring to me. Prediction: Ravens win 27-10 Seahawks at Football Team: Jemp: Football Team, Reeb: Football Team, Pep: Football Team, Screw: Football Team Yeah I’m now on the train that the Seahawks are bad and I’m not sure what’s happening with Russ next year. The Football Team will take care of business at home. Prediction: Football Team wins 200-0 Here are the standings:
Screw: 95-55 Reeb: 94-56 Pep: 90-60 Jemp: 82-68 Alx: 78-72 Another weird week of football in the books, as Screw takes the lead despite having a losing record on the week. Anyway, let’s pick some games. Patriots at Falcons: Jemp: Patriots, Reeb: Patriots, Pep: Patriots, Screw: Patriots We get a Super Bowl LI rematch. The only difference is that the Patriots are without Tom Brady and the Falcons are without any talent whatsoever. I expect this one to look a lot like the fourth quarter of that super bowl, except for the whole game. The Pats keep looking better each and every week, but they’d have to beat the Falcons 100-0 to outdo last week, so I don’t expect that trend to continue. I still expect them to romp the Falcons though. Prediction: Patriots win 38-10 Colts at Bills: Jemp: Bills, Reeb: Bills, Pep: Bills, Screw: Bills Well, either the Bills are back, or the Jets are just that bad. I’m guessing the latter, but it still has to be an encouraging performance for Buffalo fans. Stefon Diggs finally had a big game, as did pretty much everyone in the Bills offense. The Colts offense wasn’t as lucky, as they just seem to be the Jonathan Taylor show. Had it not been for a punt block, they might not have even gotten past the Jags. Of course, the Bills just lost to the Jags so I have no confidence in anything anymore. But, I’ll still take the Bills. Prediction: Bills win 20-17 Ravens at Bears: Jemp: Ravens, Reeb: Ravens, Pep: Ravens, Screw: Ravens Rough game for the Ravens. However, they get the mini-bye to correct their issues and come back strong. The Bears had a full bye, but they could take several seasons off and I don’t think Matt Nagy is fixing anything here. At least Justin Fields is making progress, which is all you can really ask for if you’re a Bears fan. The Ravens have their sights a little higher. Prediction: Ravens win 17-13 Lions at Browns: Jemp: Lions, Reeb: Browns, Pep: Browns, Screw: Browns The Lions are on a roll, as they’ve now avoided a loss in two straight weeks. Sure, people might scoff at the tie, but I bet you the Browns would have taken a tie last week. Maybe if Baker is hurt, the Browns could maybe have him sit on the bench? I don’t know that Case Keenum is much of a downgrade on a fully healthy Mayfield, so they might as well use him when they don’t even have that. Especially when they can just hand the ball off this game and run it down the Lions throat. Also, Tim Boyle might start for the Lions, and Lions fans are probably happy about that, so there isn’t much going right for this team. Prediction: Browns win 34-17 Texans at Titans: Jemp: Titans, Reeb: Titans, Pep: Titans, Screw: Titans This game feels eerily similar to the Dolphins Ravens matchup from last week. One team that is on a roll due to a considerable amount of luck, and the other that is on a bad run due to being bad at football. And yet, last week, the Dolphins were able to take out the Ravens, so maybe the Texans can do the same to their division rivals here. I’m not counting on it though. Prediction: Titans win 24-21 Packers at Vikings: Jemp: Vikings, Reeb: Packers, Pep: Packers, Screw: Packers Hey, the Vikings got a win! Now, we just have to see if they can beat the Packers. I should rephrase, because I know they certainly can beat the Packers, but if they actually will is a whole different question. The Packers are banged up and the Vikings have the talent to take them down in their building. However, Matt LaFleur and Aaron Rodgers always seem to come up with some magic. But I think the Vikings manage to get this one. Prediction: Vikings win 23-21 Dolphins at Jets: Jemp: Dolphins, Reeb: Dolphins, Pep: Dolphins, Screw: Dolphins Nobody seems to want the crown of the best team in the NFL, but the Jets sure are running away with the title for the worst. They are allowing about 44 points per game over their last 4. Mike White wasn’t quite the hero we needed him to be, and now they are turning to Joe Flacco. The Dolphins might have their own issues, but this still feels like a mismatch. Prediction: Dolphins win 38-17 Saints at Eagles: Jemp: Eagles, Reeb: Eagles, Pep: Saints, Screw: Eagles Trevor Siemian might be 0-2 this season, but I can’t help but enjoy the ride. He seems to come alive at the end of these games. Now if we can just get him started a little earlier, the Saints might have something here. However, the Eagles are on a bit of a run of their own. They have realized that maybe they should rely on the running game, instead of having Jalen Hurts lead an aerial assault. And the run game has been working, thanks to Jordan Howard. Keep Miles Sanders on IR and just feed JoHo. But I still don’t trust the Eagles, and I think the Saints rebound. Prediction: Saints win 24-20 Football Team at Panthers: Jemp: Panthers, Reeb: Panthers, Pep: Panthers, Screw: Panthers The Ron Rivera/Taylor Heinicke revenge game here. There are so many traces of the Panthers in DC, that the Football Team will be fueled with revenge narratives. Cam won’t make a difference in the face of greatness. Prediction: Football Team wins 200-0 49ers at Jaguars: Jemp: 49ers, Reeb: 49ers, Pep: 49ers, Screw: 49ers As weird as it may have sounded a few weeks ago, this could be a great matchup between the 49ers offense and the Jaguars defense. The 49ers are hitting their stride on offense with Deebo continuing his monster season, and now integrating Brandon Aiyuk and getting George Kittle back from injury. But, as impressive as they were last week, the Jaguars defense has been equally impressive. It wasn’t just a Josh Allen gimmick this time, and they basically held the Colts to 13 points if you don’t count the blocked punt touchdown. The problem is that they have very little going for them on offense. Prediction: 49ers win 24-17 Bengals at Raiders: Jemp: Bengals, Reeb: Bengals, Pep: Raiders, Screw: Bengals Yeah, Pep can hold out hope that the Raiders will get their sh** together, but I don’t think it’s happening. I mean, how can you expect them to handle Zac Taylor coming off a bye? The gameplan will just be too much to handle. Prediction: Bengals win 27-20 Cowboys at Chiefs: Jemp: Cowboys, Reeb: Chiefs, Pep: Cowboys, Screw: Chiefs The Chiefs are back. I knew it all along, there were clearly no lasting issues and they are all corrected now. Patrick Mahomes just had himself a slump but now everything is fine. I am being somewhat facetious, but part of me actually thinks that might be the case. I know the defense still isn’t great, and they could use a few more weapons on offense, but as long as their core group is playing like last week, they are hard to beat. The Cowboys are certainly a team that can keep up, but I don’t think they do this week. Prediction: Chiefs win 34-31 Cardinals at Seahawks: Jemp: Cardinals, Reeb: Cardinals, Pep: Cardinals, Screw: Cardinals So, Kyler has to be back this week right? He’s been a gametime decision two weeks in a row. I’m totally supportive of being cautious with Kyler, but my fantasy teams are hurting. Which is what Kliff Kingsbury should really be concerned about. Or he should at least be concerned by the performance of his offense last week. Then again, the Seahawks played their hobbled starting quarterback last week, and their offensive performance was even worse. So, maybe the Cardinals are doing the right thing. Prediction: Cardinals win 31-17 Steelers at Chargers: Jemp: Chargers, Reeb: Steelers, Pep: Chargers, Screw: Steelers So I actually think the Steelers are the better team here. The Chargers can’t seem to win a game if they don’t convert every fourth down they get. Which seems like a tough proposition to do every single week. The Steelers might have tied the Lions last week, but it was with Mason Rudolph. As bad as Ben Roethlisberger is now, he is still a significant upgrade over Rudolph. However, I like the Chargers too much not to pick them here. I know not to trust my analysis anyway, so I might as well pick the team I want to root for. Prediction: Chargers win 27-20 Giants at Buccaneers: Jemp: Bucs, Reeb: Bucs, Pep: Bucs, Screw: Bucs Yes, the Bucs have lost two in a row. No, they aren’t going to lose 3. I do really hope we get a Manning Cast for this one, with Tom Brady going against the Giants. That’s about the only interesting thing that can come from this game. Prediction: Buccaneers win 34-17 Here are the standings:
Reeb: 89-47 Screw: 89-47 Pep: 83-53 Jemp: 74-62 Alx: 71-65 I can’t even get down on myself for last week, because that was just weird. But enough about me. Screw has been on a tear recently and has now tied up Reeb at the top of the board. Now let’s pick some games. Ravens at Dolphins: Jemp: Ravens, Reeb: Ravens, Pep: Ravens, Screw: Ravens The Ravens manage to keep pulling out these close come-from-behind wins. I have to think they are living on the edge right now, and they should eventually finish on the wrong side of these squeakers. Fortunately, I don’t expect this game to be one of those close finishes, as I expect the Ravens will roll through the Dolphins without much resistance. But I guess I shouldn’t be confident in any game after last week. Prediction: Ravens win 31-10 Falcons at Cowboys: Jemp: Cowboys, Reeb: Cowboys, Pep: Cowboys, Screw: Cowboys That’s what I like to see from the Cowboys. I started to think they wouldn’t give us one of those performances this year, but I should never have doubted them. They let Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams run all over them last week, and now they have to deal with the Cordarrelle Patterson show. Matt Ryan has also been playing pretty well as of late, so he could give this Cowboys team a run for their money. I kind of doubt it though. Prediction: Cowboys win 38-21 Saints at Titans: Jemp: Titans, Reeb: Titans, Pep: Titans, Screw: Titans So maybe the Trevor Siemian experience wasn’t quite the success we had expected. He did put together some offense at the end last week, but I feel like I could light up the Falcons in the fourth quarter. Now the question is if the Titans offense is any better. They didn’t need to do much to beat the Rams last week, but we have yet to see them flourish without Derrick Henry. And despite their performance last week against the Falcons, the Saints have one of the best defenses in the NFL. I think the Saints manage an upset on the road against the Titans. I probably shouldn’t keep doubling down betting against the Titans, but I figure I have to be right one of these times. Prediction: Saints win 20-17 Jaguars at Colts: Jemp: Colts, Reeb: Colts, Pep: Colts, Screw: Colts Well Frank Reich certainly rectified the team’s run-pass ratio with their performance on Thursday Night Football. It’s pretty easy to keep calling run plays when you’re averaging 10 yards per carry. And keeping the ball out of Carson Wentz’s hands is just a plus. The Jags are also coming off an impressive win, and they owe it all to their defense. However, Josh Allen doesn’t get the benefit of playing against his namesake, so I don’t see another performance like the last one. Prediction: Colts win 27-17 Browns at Patriots: Jemp: Patriots, Reeb: Browns, Pep: Patriots, Screw: Browns This might be the hardest game of the week to pick, and it’s a pivotal matchup in the AFC. The Patriots are coming into their own, now having won 3 straight. However, the Browns are also coming off the best game of their season, and now the Odell is out of the picture, they show no signs of slowing down. The question is if Bill Belichick can rattle Baker. I’m guessing yes, but Stefanski might be able to cook up a gameplan of his own. Prediction: Patriots win 24-21 Bills at Jets: Jemp: Bills, Reeb: Bills, Pep: Bills, Screw: Bills Well, the Bills did lose to the Jaguars, but they couldn’t possibly follow that up with a loss to the Jets, could they? The Jets have graciously allowed Zach Wilson to take another week to get healthy, which means we get to see Mike White try his hand (no pun intended) at another big upset. We all know everyone is pumped to see Mike White, and maybe it could be enough to take advantage of a stumbling Bills team. It’s more likely that the Bills will just rebound and stomp the Jets though. Prediction: Bills win 30-21 Lions at Steelers: Jemp: Lions, Reeb: Steelers, Pep: Steelers, Screw: Steelers Yeah, I’m done trying to pick the Lions. I still think they’ll get a win at some point, but I’m not trying to pick when that will happen. And maybe they do in fact just go 0-17. Prediction: Steelers win 27-20 Buccaneers at Football Team: Jemp: Bucs, Reeb: Bucs, Pep: Bucs, Screw: Bucs The Football Team is back from their bye and ready to take care of the defending champs. Tom Brady is no match for Taylor Heinicke. Prediction: Football Team wins 100-0 Panthers at Cardinals: Jemp: Cardinals, Reeb: Cardinals, Pep: Cardinals, Screw: Cardinals I can imagine Matt Rhule watching Colt McCoy get the win for the Cardinals last week and wish he could just have a quarterback as good as Colt on his roster. Well, he’s trying at least, as they signed Cam Newton this week. Maybe Cam is the answer for the rest of the season, but he won’t be playing in this one. And somehow I don’t expect PJ Walker to take out the Cardinals, especially with Kyler coming back. Prediction: Cardinals win 23-6 Vikings at Chargers: Jemp: Vikings, Reeb: Chargers, Pep: Vikings, Screw: Chargers These two franchises have turned losing close games into an art form. This season, it’s been the Vikings who have done it best, but I have to think their luck will turn around sooner or later. What better time than against the team that has found more ways to lose than anyone? I think the Vikings step up and get a much needed W here. Prediction: Vikings win 34-31 Eagles at Broncos: Jemp: Broncos, Reeb: Broncos, Pep: Broncos, Screw: Broncos I’m not entirely sure what to make of the Broncos. Are they just a better defense without Von Miller? Is he the Odell Beckham of their defense? Who knows? But they are certainly getting better on offense now that they have most of their weapons back. Teddy Bridgewater probably won’t ever lead a top 5 offense, but they have enough playmakers to make themselves hard to deal with. And that should be plenty to beat the Eagles. Prediction: Broncos win 24-14 Seahawks at Packers: Jemp: Packers, Reeb: Seahawks, Pep: Packers, Screw: Packers It’s the return of a couple All-Pro quarterbacks in this one. The Packers will hold off on their Jordan Love evaluation, and go back to Aaron Rodgers who might have slightly better accuracy at this point in his career. Maybe the Jordan Love pick wasn’t the best decision by the Packers. But I guess we shouldn’t close the book on Love just yet, but I’m glad I don’t have to watch him this week. I do like Russ coming back for the Seahawks, and think they have a shot here. Geno did a solid job, but he’s no Russell Wilson. I like the Seahawks to pull out a gritty win here. Prediction: Seahawks win 31-27 Chiefs at Raiders: Jemp: Chiefs, Reeb: Chiefs, Pep: Raiders, Screw: Chiefs I feel like I have no idea how to pick Chiefs games anymore. I used to just pick them by default, but now they are just kind of bad. And yet, the Raiders have so many more issues. I don’t usually buy that off-the-field stuff has much of an effect on gameplay, but this has been a lot. And the loss of Ruggs from purely a football perspective is huge as well, and I don’t exactly expect Desean Jackson to be an adequate replacement. But weirdly, even in a pretty bad loss to the Giants last week, the Raiders still didn’t look as concerning as the Chiefs in their win. I never thought I’d say this, but I trust Derek Carr more than Patrick Mahomes right now. Prediction: Raiders win 24-21 Rams at 49ers: Jemp: Rams, Reeb: Rams, Pep: Rams, Screw: Rams Last week was tough for the Rams, so they decided to do what the Rams do and sign a big name. Hopefully OBJ works out in this offense. I’m guessing he won’t suit up for this one due to the late signing, but maybe with this being on Monday Night, they could get him in on some limited snaps. Not that it really matters because this 49ers team couldn’t even beat Colt McCoy. That being said, Kyle Shanahan does usually bring his best against Sean McVay, so maybe they make it interesting. Prediction: Rams win 34-27 Here are the standings:
Reeb: 80-42 Screw: 79-43 Pep: 76-46 Jemp: 67-55 Alx: 63-59 Hey it’s okay. Two steps forward, one step back. Sure, I went 5-10 last week, but it’s fine, I’ve learned from my mistakes and am ready to start gaining momentum again. Let’s pick some games. Jets at Colts: Jemp: Colts, Reeb: Colts, Pep: Colts, Screw: Colts The Mike White era has begun. Zach Wilson had a good run but it seems his time is over. He can hang on to that time he threw that deep TD to Corey Davis against the Titans. I’m all seriousness, Mike White can certainly make things interesting if he puts together another performance like last week. But, we’re guessing he probably just caught lightning in a bottle. Unless Carson Wentz just giftwraps a win for the Jets, I like the Colts at home. Prediction: Colts win 24-17 Browns at Bengals: Jemp: Bengals, Reeb: Bengals, Pep: Bengals, Screw: Browns This is a massive game in the NFC North. A win for the Browns means they are right back in the thick of things in the AFC. The Bengals also need a win coming off the wrong side of the Mike White game. The good news for the Bengals is that Baker isn’t playing nearly to the level of Mike White. The Browns offense struggled mightily against the Steelers. Maybe having Baker play in a weird shoulder harness wasn’t the best idea. However, it sounds like OBJ won’t be playing in this game which means Baker will play well. Prediction: Browns win 24-21 Broncos at Cowboys: Jemp: Cowboys, Reeb: Cowboys, Pep: Cowboys, Screw: Cowboys Well I was feeling pretty good about picking against the Cowboys when Dak was ruled out, but of course the Vikings managed toblow it. They might as well let Dak take another week off because this Broncos team isn’t beating them. Surprisingly, just getting Jerry Jeudy back didn’t immediately unleash this offense. The defense now traded away Von Miller so I’m guessing they won’t be able to shut down this offense without a pass rush. Prediction: Cowboys win 34-14 Texans at Dolphins: Jemp: Dolphins, Reeb: Dolphins, Pep: Texans, Screw: Dolphins Tyrod Taylor is back for the Texans just in time to save their season. Or at least to take them from the worst team in the NFL to maybe the 29th best team? The good news is that the Dolphins are probably ranked lower than that, so I like Tyrod to get a win in his first game back. Prediction: Texans win 20-17 Falcons at Saints: Jemp: Saints, Reeb: Falcons, Pep: Saints, Screw: Falcons So at this point we still don’t know who is starting at QB for the Saints. Avon Kamara joked about being ready to play quarterback this week, and honestly, I think if he did, they’d still beat the Falcons. The best thing about the Falcons is Kyle Pitts, and I’m not even being facetious anymore. He only had two catches last week but he’s still basically the only player on their team who has been at all impressive this season. But he’d need to have a 200 yard game for the Falcons to win this one. Prediction: Saints win 24-14 Raiders at Giants: Jemp: Raiders, Reeb: Raiders, Pep: Raiders, Screw: Raiders Yeah the Raiders are 5-2 and leading their division, and yet, this feels like they are having the worst season of any team. It kind of sucks for Derek Carr that he’s having the best season of his career, and yet everything is crumbling around him. At this point, I feel like there is too much for Carr to overcome. He already went through a coaching change, the line is bad, and he just lost his best receiver to put it mildly. The Giants are getting healthier and might have a pretty strong corps of weapons if things break right, so I’ll take them to win at home. Prediction: Giants win 27-24 Patriots at Panthers: Jemp: Patriots, Reeb: Patriots, Pep: Patriots, Screw: Patriots Look out for these Patriots. They might not be the AFC powerhouse of the Brady days, but this is a good team that has a real shot at a wild card berth. They started off slow, but there is no doubt that they are a better team than the Panthers right now. Surprisingly, the Panthers have the better defense, but their offense is a disaster right now. Whoever starts at quarterback for them might see a few ghosts in this one. Prediction: Patriots win 30-13 Bills at Jaguars: Jemp: Bills, Reeb: Bills, Pep: Bills, Screw: Bills I don’t think this one needs any explanation. Prediction: Bills win 38-10 Vikings at Ravens: Jemp: Vikings, Reeb: Ravens, Pep: Ravens, Screw: Ravens I know I said I felt good about my Vikings pick when Dak was ruled out, but part of me knew that sealed Minnesota’s fate. Now that they are playing a good team at full strength, I think they show up and play a complete game. Either that or the Ravens come back angry after a bye and run right through them. One of the two. Prediction: Vikings win 31-30 Chargers at Eagles: Jemp: Chargers, Reeb: Chargers, Pep: Chargers, Screw: Chargers Well the Eagles finally produced some offense before garbage time. Probably because they decided to bring back Jordan Howard, which was obviously the key last week. Either that or the fact that they were playing the Lions. The Chargers have an equally bad run defense, but I expect Justin Herbert to play a little better than Jared Goff. Prediction: Chargers win 34-27 Packers at Chiefs: Jemp: Chiefs, Reeb: Chiefs, Pep: Chiefs, Screw: Chiefs This looks like it’s going to be the second time we are robbed of the Patrick Mahomes vs Aaron Rodgers matchup. But it’s probably for the best, because it seems like both are past their primes at this point. I couldn’t tell you what’s wrong with the Chiefs offense, other than it’s not very good. Maybe not the most insightful analysis, but you can’t deny it’s accurate. I can’t pick them to lose to Jordan Love, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the Packers still got the W. Love just has to be efficient and the Packers could steal this. Prediction: Chiefs win 27-24 Cardinals at 49ers: Jemp: Cardinals, Reeb: Cardinals, Pep: Cardinals, Screw: Cardinals Well I wish I knew if Kyler was playing in this one. Not only because it would make the game easier to pick, but also because I have him on a couple of my fantasy teams. But ultimately, I think the Cardinals have a better chance of winning with Colt McCoy than they do of losing with Kyler. And I don’t see Jimmy G rushing for two TDs again. One max. Prediction: Cardinals win 31-17 Titans at Rams: Jemp: Rams, Reeb: Rams, Pep: Rams, Screw: Rams I’m so excited to watch Adrian Peterson in this offense. He might be a slight downgrade from Derrick Henry at this point, but I still think he’s going to be the early down workhorse and will be productive in this offense. Probably not in this game though because the Rams will likely smash. Prediction: Rams win 34-20 Bears at Steelers: Jemp: Steelers, Reeb: Steelers, Pep: Steelers, Screw: Steelers Justin Fields showed why he was a first round pick last week when he ran for a touchdown on a 4th and 1 play where he reversed field and outran the defense. Because even if the offense is bad, he can make a play. Not enough to actually win, but at least there is something to put on the highlight reel. Although, against this Steelers defense, he might not even get that much done. Prediction: Steelers win 27-0 Here are the standings:
Reeb: 73-34 Pep: 68-39 Screw: 68-39 Jemp: 60-47 Alx: 58-49 Watch out Jemp, I’m catching up to you. Sure, it’s partly because the Lions are 0-7, but still progress. Packers at Cardinals: Jemp: Cardinals, Reeb: Cardinals, Pep: Cardinals, Screw: Packers This is a refreshing matchup after the primetime games from last week. As much as I enjoy a good defensive slugfest in bad weather, it will be nice to watch the reigning MVP and this year’s leader in the MVP race sling it around in Arizona. Unfortunately for Rodgers, he won’t have Davante Adams so it appears Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb will be his top targets. Somehow I don’t think that is going to cut it against a team that has slaughtered every other contender it has played. Prediction: Cardinals win 31-17 Panthers at Falcons: Jemp: Falcons, Reeb: Falcons, Pep: Panthers, Screw: Falcons The early Sam Darnold hype has come to a screeching halt as Adam Gase has to be smiling to watch the crumbling of Sam Darnold. Darnold was so bad last week, he was benched for PJ Walker. The good news is that Walker didn’t exactly look like the next Tom Brady ready to steal his job, so it appears Darnold is back this week. I’m giving him this week to show that he isn’t a complete bust, because if he can’t take advantage of this Falcons defense that made Tua look like Dan Marino, then he can join the likes of Josh Rosen in the wings of NFL quarterbacking. I’m only picking the Panthers this week because I still believe in their defense which isn’t bad, and because I just can’t pick the Falcons to go 4-3. Prediction: Panthers wins 20-17 Dolphins at Bills: Jemp: Bills, Reeb: Bills, Pep: Bills, Screw: Bills Damn this is a lopsided matchup, I feel like the Bills could win this one 35-0. Oh right, they already did that… in Miami. And I think I picked the Dolphins in that game. No wonder I’m in last place… Anyway, this time I think I’ll stick with the Bills. Prediction: Bills win 34-7 49ers at Bears: Jemp: Bears, Reeb: Bears, Pep: Bears, Screw: 49ers I did not ever think we would get to the point in the season where we’d all be picking the Bears to beat the 49ers. The Bears might have some of the worst offensive slumps in the NFL, but their defense is actually one of the best in the NFL, despite being carved up by the Bucs last week. They were mostly just put in bad spots by the offense, which I suppose could happen again this week, but I don’t expect Jimmy G to take advantage like TB12 did. Prediction: Bears win 20-17 Steelers at Browns: Jemp: Browns, Reeb: Browns, Pep: Steelers, Screw: Steelers Okay, so the Browns showed the world that it’s not quite panic time just yet. They won a game led by Case Keenum and D’Ernest Johnson. This week, they hope to have Baker and Nick Chubb back in the lineup. Either way, I think they have all the tools to take out this Steelers team. Hopefully they don’t choke it away. Prediction: Browns win 24-14 Eagles at Lions: Jemp: Lions, Reeb: Eagles, Pep: Lions, Screw: Eagles Alright, this could be it. The Lions have been fighting and scrapping and pulling everything out of their bag of tricks to get a win, only to realize it was futile because they are playing a team with way more talent. This week, the talent gap isn’t nearly as wide as it has been this season. Jared Goff couldn’t get the win against his former team, but he can get one this week against the Eagles. Can’t wait to see the Dan Campbell locker room celebration with his guys. Prediction: Lions win 24-23 Titans at Colts: Jemp: Titans, Reeb: Titans, Pep: Colts, Screw: Titans The Titans have completely turned their season around after losing to the Jets. They just needed a little confidence boost against the Jags to then go out and beat the two AFC championship participants from last year. But don’t sleep on the Colts, who might not have any splashy wins, but they seem to look better each and every week. As much as the Titans have impressed recently, I’m almost more impressed by the way the Colts are playing, and I think the Titans have to be a little gassed after a couple emotional victories, so I’m taking the Colts at home. Prediction: Colts win 24-21 Bengals at Jets: Jemp: Bengals, Reeb: Bengals, Pep: Bengals, Screw: Bengals You know it’s bad for the Jets when I’m kind of relieved that Zach Wilson is hurt so they can’t continue to ruin him this week. Or at least I don’t have to watch it happen, at least. Instead, I can just kick back and laugh at the Jets’ misery. It should be a good time. Prediction: Bengals win 27-0 Rams at Texans: Jemp: Rams, Reeb: Rams, Pep: Rams, Screw: Rams Okay, not sure if the last game or this one is going to be more of a blowout. But, Tyrod should be back for this one, so the Texans might be a bit more watchable. I’m sure he’s enough to lift the Texans over the Rams. Maybe they should just try running fake punts all game. Prediction: Rams win 38-17 Patriots at Chargers: Jemp: Patriots, Reeb: Chargers, Pep: Chargers, Screw: Chargers I do understand picking the Patriots here, and I’m tempted to go there myself. The Pats won by so much last week that they made beating the Jets look impressive. They’ve somewhat held the Bucs and the Cowboys in check, and Mac Jones has at least been the best rookie quarterback so far this season. I still want to believe this is a new Chargers team that doesn’t blow these types of games, so I’m sticking with the Chargers. Prediction: Chargers win 27-21 Jaguars at Seahawks: Jemp: Seahawks, Reeb: Seahawks, Pep: Seahawks, Screw: Seahawks It’s the second straight week the Jags are coming off of a win. It’s only due to a bye week, but I think that still counts. And guess what, I think they have a good chance to make it three straight weeks, because this Seahawks team doesn’t really do anything well. If you take away the DK Metcalf long TD, the Seahawks mustered 135 yards of offense last week. Granted, the Saints defense is a lot better than the Jaguars, but I think Trevor Lawrence and co. have another upset in them this week. Prediction: Jaguars win 27-24 Football Team at Broncos: Jemp: Broncos, Reeb: Football Team, Pep: Broncos, Screw: Broncos Come on, this Broncos team couldn’t even beat Case Keenum. You think they have a chance against Taylor Heinicke (who is totally an upgrade over Keenum)? Prediction: Football Team win 100-0 Buccaneers at Saints: Jemp: Bucs, Reeb: Bucs, Pep: Bucs, Screw: Bucs Anyone else looking forward to the Jameis Winston revenge game? He got to eat his Ws last year, but this year he’s at a bit of a disadvantage. He actually has to play. That’s probably not going to go well. Prediction: Buccaneers win 27-20 Cowboys at Vikings: Jemp: Vikings, Reeb: Cowboys, Pep: Cowboys, Screw: Cowboys Yes, I’ve been waiting for a good opportunity to pick against the Cowboys, and this is perfect. Can’t pick against Kirk Cousins in primetime. This Vikings team has everything the Cowboys do, except a good offensive line. However, they also have one of the best home field advantages in the NFL, and it think their offense and defense both show up for this one. Prediction: Vikings win 31-30 Giants at Chiefs: Jemp: Chiefs, Reeb: Chiefs, Pep: Chiefs, Screw: Chiefs Last week is the first time I was really worried about the Chiefs. Not worried enough to think they could lose to the Giants, but they might have to fight just to make the playoffs in a crowded AFC. But this game they should walk over the Giants. Prediction: Chiefs win 35-28 Here are the standings:
Reeb: 66-28 Pep: 60-34 Screw: 58-36 Jemp: 53-41 Alx: 50-44 Alright, steady progress, I gained a game on Reeb. And I’m now well above .500. This picking games thing isn’t so hard, so let’s get to it. Broncos at Browns: Jemp: Broncos, Reeb: Broncos, Pep: Broncos, Screw: Browns Nothing better than a Case Keenum revenge game on TNF. The Browns are about as banged up on offense as it’s possible to be. They could potentially be down their top two running backs, top two wide receivers, their top three tackles, and of course their quarterback. I guess I should say two of their top three receivers since Donovan Peoples Jones will be playing. But the Broncos have been dealing with injuries of their own, and ultimately, I think the Browns defense is the best unit in this game. And I don’t think Teddy Bridgewater is any better than Case Keenum so I’ll take the Browns at home. Prediction: Browns win 20-17 Football Team at Packers: Jemp: Packers, Reeb: Packers, Pep: Packers, Screw: Packers Aaron Rodgers might own the Bears, but he’s never defeated the Washington Football Team. And that will still be true after this weekend. Prediction: Football Team wins 100-0 Chiefs at Titans: Jemp: Chiefs, Reeb: Chiefs, Pep: Chiefs, Screw: Chiefs What an impressive win by the Titans. They faced down the AFC powerhouse in Buffalo, and Derrick Henry ran them to victory. AJ Brown was invisible in the first half, but he sparked their passing game in the second half, which totally changed their offensive dynamic. If he and Julio can stay healthy, the Titans offense is still a force to be reckoned with. But, it still doesn’t stack up to the Chiefs offense, so we’re all taking the Chiefs on the road. Prediction: Chiefs win 31-24 Falcons at Dolphins: Jemp: Falcons, Reeb: Dolphins, Pep: Dolphins, Screw: Falcons Are the Falcons really going to be 3-3? Matt Ryan actually looked great the last time we saw him, and so did Kyle Pitts. Now he gets Calvin Ridley back and maybe this passing game could come alive. Probably not, but if we compare it to the Dolphins passing attack, they might as well be the greatest show on turf. I really don’t want to ever pick this horrible Falcons team, but the Dolphins have been so bad that I just can’t pick them either. I mean, they are desperate enough to try to trade for Deshaun Watson with his murky future. And to be honest, Deshaun Watson could show up on Sunday for the game, never having even seen the Dolphins playbook or anyone on their team, and still give them a better chance to win. Prediction: Falcons win 28-24 Jets at Patriots: Jemp: Patriots, Reeb: Jets, Pep: Patriots, Screw: Patriots I’d love to say Zach Wilson is going to bounce back here after his disastrous first game against the Pats, but I just can’t. He was awful against the Falcons, and that was the Falcons. Also, the Patriots continue to show that they are a capable team, and I can’t imagine they could drop this one at home. But who knows? Maybe Zach Wilson has a Davis Mills like performance to get the win. I don’t think I’d put money on it though. Prediction: Patriots win 24-14 Panthers at Giants: Jemp: Panthers, Reeb: Panthers, Pep: Panthers, Screw: Panthers There was a point in time when both of these quarterbacks were thought to be the savior of a New York franchise. Okay, maybe not Daniel Jones, people just hated him from the start. However, both of them started off the season pretty well, perhaps redeeming themselves in the NFL landscape. Unfortunately, it hasn’t lasted long for either of them. They combined last week to go 46/92 for 449 yards (4.88 Y/A), 1 TD, 4 INTs, and 2 fumbles lost. But anyway, I guess I’ll take the Panthers since they aren’t as injury-riddled and they have the better defense. Prediction: Panthers win 22-19 Bengals at Ravens: Jemp: Bengals, Reeb: Bengals, Pep: Ravens, Screw: Bengals A lot of love for the Bengals this week. I was thinking about taking the Bengals in this one, but I can’t pass up the chance to gain a game by taking the Ravens at home, coming off their most impressive game of the season. However, this is not a mismatch by any means. The Bengals have had the better defense this season on balance, despite the Ravens’ dominant performance against the Chargers. Lamar is playing as well as he ever has, and I’m still waiting to see the Bengals win in a big spot. This could be their chance. Prediction: Ravens win 24-21 Eagles at Raiders: Jemp: Eagles, Reeb: Raiders, Pep: Raiders, Screw: Raiders I’ve gone back and forth on this game a few times. On the one hand, I think the Raiders are the better team, and Derek Carr is playing the best ball of his career. They have some weapons and their defense isn’t the pushover that it has been in the past. However, they also just went through a lot losing their coach in the middle of the season. A coach who has made this offense work despite a lack of weapons. They played motivated last week, as teams often do with their interim coach, but I expect that wears off this week. The Eagles are also pretty bad, but I think they sneak one past the Raiders this week. Prediction: Eagles win 27-24 Lions at Rams: Jemp: Lions, Reeb: Rams, Pep: Rams, Screw: Rams Well, here we find out who won the Matthew Stafford for Jared Goff trade. It’s been pretty close, but I’d have to give the slight edge to the Rams so far. Although, imagine how sweet it would feel for Jared Goff if he somehow was able to pull off a miracle here. He could really stick it Sean McVay, even if it doesn’t really make a difference in the long run. Prediction: Rams win 34-17 Texans at Cardinals: Jemp: Cardinals, Reeb: Cardinals, Pep: Cardinals, Screw: Cardinals The one good thing you can tell yourself if you are the Texans is that the Cardinals only blow out good teams. So maybe they won’t embarrass themselves here. Doubtful, but maybe. Prediction: Cardinals win 34-0 Bears at Buccaneers: Jemp: Bucs, Reeb: Bucs, Pep: Bucs, Screw: Bucs Well Justin Fields couldn’t quite topple Aaron Rodgers, but he gets another shot to beat a future hall-of-famer this week. Spoiler alert, he’s going to fail again. Granted, I think the Bears defense can give the Bucs some problems, but ultimately, the Bucs will get their points, and the Bears… won’t. Prediction: Buccaneers win 28-14 Colts at 49ers: Jemp: 49ers, Reeb: Colts, Pep: Colts, Screw: 49ers Well, so much for the Trey Lance thing. I guess we get to watch Jimmy G in primetime again, which is what we all wanted. Watching the Colts offense is now becoming kind of fun though. Jonathan Taylor is really getting going, and Carson Wentz is playing pretty well too. I think this Colts team is turning a corner, and should get over the 49ers in this spot. Prediction: Colts win 28-17 Saints at Seahawks: Jemp: Saints, Reeb: Seahawks, Pep: Saints, Screw: Saints If you thought watching Jimmy G on Sunday Night was bad, just wait for the Geno Smith vs. Jameis Winston experience on Monday Night. It’s not that Geno is terrible, but the Seahawk are just bad in general. The only thing they had going for them was Russell Wilson, and you can’t expect Geno to elevate this team like Russ would. Jameis isn’t really any better than Geno, but he has a good defense, a good offensive line, and Alvin Kamara. So I’ll take the Saints. Prediction: Saints win 27-13 |
